Unconventional holidays in Wroclaw

When the city hustle and bustle is tiring, and the sun gets unbearable, it is the time to take a look at the world from a slightly different perspective and break free from the reality. That is why we recommend to visit Muzeum Miejskie [the City Museum] in Wroclaw. In the interiors of the Royal Palace there is the “Marc Chagall and the artists of European avant-garde” exhibition. The exhibition is open until 31 August 2016.

Summer in Wroclaw offers an abundance of attractions: from concerts and festivals to exhibitions. The European Capital of Culture 2016 is about to display the paintings of one of the most interesting eras in the history of art: the avant-garde. Marc Chagall is the main character of the event which is hosted from 1 to 31 August in the premises of the Royal Palace. It is a great opportunity to see the collection of the artist’s works gathered in the Chagall Museum in Vitebsk - the place of his birth. This Belarusian city is present in all Chagall’s works.  Regardless of whether he lived in France of in the US, the details and memories from his homeland were always visible in his paintings. The exhibition is made even more interesting thanks to a great documentary movie about the life of Marc Chagall and the animation which is about to make the painter's work more familiar to the visitors.

But the exhibition in the City Museum is not only about Marc Chagall. We can also admire the works of Picasso, Georges Braque, Alexander Calder, Alberto Giacometti, Henri Matisse, Joan Miró and others. These artists complete the creative art of the main character of the event and also allow the visitors to understand the artistic trend of avant-garde better. Playing with covenants, rejecting limitations and breaking out from the world of reality - that’s the avant-garde of the 20th century.

The exhibition is open Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and during weekends to 6 p.m. The entry ticket is PLN 15, the reduced price ticket: PLN 10. We really recommend taking a trip to the Royal Palace to look for some inspiration among the greatest artists of the 20th century. The collection of paintings which we can see till 31 August is displayed in Poland for the first time.
