Winter weekend in Karpacz!

Weekends in the winter are truly special in Lower Silesia. You just have plan the trip to the mountains which are so close to Wroclaw. Karpacz is a real winter resort and mandatory place to highlight on your tourist map.

At the foot of Śnieżka Mountain, there is a small but remarkable town.  Karpacz is famous not only for its location, but also history, and today it is a perfect place to relax far from Wroclaw’s city bustle.  It takes only a 3-hour-journey in a car or bus to change the urban climate and breathe the mountain air.

What can we do in Karpacz?

Since the 19 century, Karpacz has been developing as a resort and tourist center of Karkonosze Mountains - it is full of life all year long. In the winter, it is skiers’ paradise and they tend to choose Winterpol Karpacz Station especially often. Ski Complex Kopa is also very popular. At the beginning of January the weather was perfect for skiing, but if it does not happen, Karpacz is also great for hiking thanks to numerous trails.

There is also something for the amateurs of sightseeing. Visiting the famous Wang Temple is an important stage of each trip.  This is a very unusual church - brought here especially from Norway in 1842. Currently, it is considered the oldest wooden church in Poland and represents the architectural style typical to Scandinavia. This is the only such temple in the Poland, so it is worth seeing.  A very different attraction is the Museum of Toys in Karpacz. Only there you can see a collection of unique, funny, and sometimes terrifying toys from different historical times. Visiting the Museum is a great entertainment before the delicious dinner in one of many pubs in the town. Zurek soup in bread, sour soup, pork knuckle - after a long winter walk or a few hours of skiing, they taste even better. And in the evening you can relax with mulled wine or a cold beer.

How about the transport and accommodation?

The accommodation depends on your requirements. On group-purchase websites, there are many accommodation offers form guest houses and for double rooms - maybe it's an idea for a romantic weekend? A popular site booking.com, where you can find all types accommodation at different prices - depending on your expectations, is yet another solution. And how do we get to Karpacz? Buses to Karpacz depart from Wroclaw bus station. The Ticket is about PLN 30. Here you can check the timetables easily: http://en.e-podroznik.pl/ . You can also use blablacar.com: just join a group of people who are heading to Karkonosze Mountains. The journey is so short that it is enough to leave on Friday afternoon if you are up to a nice, unusual weekend.
